PREP/YEAR ONE ENROLMENTS

OPEN DAY

Open Day is usually held in Term 4 for the next year’s enrolments.  Open Day for 2008 is Tuesday 27 November 2007.

Enrolment interviews are held in October/November. Parents are advised of future ‘Open Days’ at these interviews.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Bring your child to the Year One/Prep Classroom on the first day and introduce yourself and your child to the Classroom Teacher.

Your child will be given a name tag which hopefully he/she will wear during the first week.

A morning tea will be organized in the first week of school for all new parents.  We ask you not to stay too long in your child’s classroom in the mornings of the first week. It is an undeniable fact that often these young students settle faster than their parents!

If you make your departure firmly and lovingly the Prep - 3 teacher can begin to settle students quickly into the Year One/Prep Program.

PREP YEAR FOR THE FUTURE

From 2007, all Queensland children will have access to a full-time preparatory year of education before starting Year 1.

The non-compulsory, preparatory year will be offered in all state primary schools.  It will replace the part-time state preschool system that is not available in all schools.  There will be no waiting list for the preparatory year because it will be available to all children attending state primary schools.

In 2008 the compulsory school starting age will increase by six months.  Children must be six by 30 June in the year they enrol in Year 1.  Now, they can start Year 1 if they turn six any time during that year.

This means that Queensland children will be starting school at about the same age as children in other states.

Children born on or after 1 January 2003 will be eligible for the new preparatory year of schooling before enrolling in Year 1.

They will need to be five by 30 June in the year they start prep.  The following chart will show when children will start the preparatory year and Year 1.
