SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Fortitude Valley also offers instrumental music tuition on Percussion instruments. Students may begin playing instruments from Year 4.

Tuition fees are kept to a minimum and a limited number of school instruments are available on loan to the students for the year.

GUIDANCE SERVICES

The school is supported by Guidance Officer Mrs Helen Glinderman, on a needs basis.

HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

A visiting specialist Teacher visits our school one day a week for specific teaching of physical education skills. Students from years 1-7 take part in the physical education program, which includes: ball skills, sport skill development, physical fitness, athletics and swimming.

The importance of a healthy diet, rest and participation in physical activity cannot be underestimated.

LIBRARY RESOURCE CENTRE

The school library is a resource centre that meets the learning needs of our children. In every curriculum area, from mathematics to the writing process, teachers and children have the opportunity to engage in resource based teaching and learning.

This method of teaching and learning develops the child as an independent learner with a range of general processes and specific skills useful in our sophisticated, technological society. A wide range of resources, including print and non-print, is used for this purpose. Our library includes up to date computer software, video resources, picture, fiction and non-fiction books and community resources.

Parents/Guardians are welcome to access the library with their children or by themselves to borrow or just browse through our wide selection of resources.

SUPPORT TEACHER LEARNING DIFFICULTY

Our Support Teacher for students with learning difficulties Mrs Christine Tuck is present at the school 1 day per week. Students access the services of the ST-LD and Guidance Officer by a referral system through the Classroom Teacher and Principal.
